The Culture Vulture
Another dawn cracking start as the cast ascends Lions Head for a pinnacle yoga session. Henri’s concerned that his recent chemical peal will make his face more vulnerable if he’s made to face the sunrise, and potentially make him look like carpaccio The relationship between Kaizer and Trevor is becoming strained, growing from mutual disinterest to more frequent irritability. They’ve never really interacted throughout the course of the show and its apparent why. Contrary to his feeling toward Kaizer, Trevor admits to having a crush on Henri. His easy going, humorous character certainly pricks Trevor’s interest, though there don’t appear to be any reciprocal feelings from Henri.
The Pick Up takes place at a champagne festival a potentially apt environment for Maurice to flex his courtliness, as Henri notes, “He’s got the collar up, Maurice is ready for action!” But aside to the camera, that Maurice has an inferiority complex regarding the opposite sex, which is typical of heterosexual males. Trevor’s proceeding with caution, although peppered with talent, the Afrikaans culture can be a minefield for gay guys. The pick up yields little in the way of potential, and nothing in the way of dates.
Henri takes Gillian on a very eloquent champagne tour, her sophistication and elegance certainly catch Henri’s attention, and his charisma, interests and good looks enamour Gillian. Amidst sabrage, Gillian explains how dating works in France, if a first dates goes well and you end up kissing, that’s the beginning of an exclusive relationship, no question. Knowing where you stand in a relationship is very comforting for a woman. Gillian admits she likes the chase involved in romance, though as soon as she gets her guy, she gets bored. A stroll through the vineyards results in a Hollywood kiss in beautiful surroundings, if Henri were French this would make them an exclusive couple.
After last weeks fiery encounter with his ex, Craig, Trevor is dating Armin again, the couple attend a show at On Broadway. In recounting his date with Craig to Armin, Trevor lets slip that despite the dispute, Craig spent the night at his house. This is the first sit down date for the couple and they finally have a discussion about their developing relationship. Despite Trevor’s affection for Armin, he’s doesn’t want to be in a relationship right now. This doesn’t deter Armin from intimately cleaning a spilled drink off Trevor’s crotch, or their phallic interaction with the spring rolls.
Kaizer and Trevor have teamed up to take a couple of Irish girls to Brackenfell for a taste of the Afrikaans culture. The guys are notably apprehensive, not really knowing what to expect from the night ahead. Maurice’s discourse in the car makes Kaizer cringe, he doesn’t want Maurice’s mouth to wreck his chances on the date. According to Maurice, a trip to the northern suburbs is often undertaken by guys caught in a drought. Not by him however, he prefers just to sit the drought out. A few powerful drinks later the crew hit the dance floor. Although cursed with two left feet, Maurice enjoys the evening, “it’s important to try new things.” His date agrees, though hopes the other facets to Maurice are better than his dancing. For Kaizer, experimentation is key, this rolls into his perception on culture. His date, Dawn, enjoys Kaizer’s company, he’s her kind of party person, “likes to party, likes to drink.”
The cast regroups on Silvermine where Trevor needs reminding of his last lay, two and a half weeks ago, apparently from some guy who propositioned him on the side of the road. Maurice is intrigued by the difference is sleeping with wealthy and poor people. He directs this at Henri who pushes away the glamour tag the others attribute him. He explains to Maurice that because of to his strict upbringing he’s preconditioned to have sex in a certain structured manner. If you’re not brought up with strict morals you’re a lot freer in your sexuality. Kaizer doesn’t differentiate between making love and having sex. Maurice believes they’re two very different expressions, having been thrown off a women because she picked up he wasn’t emotionally interacting with her. For Kaizer sex is purely sex, and this notion of making love will end in women becoming bored with their men.
