Mr. Personality.
Physique versus personality dominates this week’s episode, as Kaizer says “physical gets you through the door, but personality takes you all the way.” Maurice reckons its the man’s job, not the women’s, to be humorous, “women like men who make them laugh, it’s a very critical thing.”
With speed dating lined up for that night’s pick-up, the guys are looking forward to some new encounters. Marleen has returning to Holland and Kaizer’s on the pull. Maurice feels with his luck he’s destined to “land up with some ugly chick.” The cast is having breakfast at La Vie, Maurice considers this an apt time to broach the topic of anal sex. It seems only Trevor has carnal knowledge in this realm. Prying further, Maurice wants to know when each of the cast lost their virginities. Trevor manages a completely elusive answer, “I think about twenty-one, or eighteen, nineteen. Ja, twenty-one, twenty-two, I would say. “ Kaizer was nineteen, while Maurice bloomed at twenty-six, in Bangkok, Thailand with an Australian girl.
Is speed dating the plight of the young and desperate, or is it a necessary facility for modern society’s long hours and fragmented social structure? Trevor’s sitting this pick-up out and has already booked another date with Asa. Maurice and Kaizer find the initial speed dating exchanges nerve wracking, but ease into the event as the evening progresses. The girls generally perceive Kaizer as fun and Maurice as deep. Both guys are infatuated with a beautiful, dynamic girl named Sinazo.
Date day arrives. Trevor and Asa arrange a romantic picnic at Llundudno. Their interaction seems easy, but as they select their ingredients at a deli, its clear Asa is the more dominant member of the relationship. Asa revels in this new approach to dating, forgoing nightclubs and bars in favour of interactive experiences. Trevor is anxious to find out where they stand, while Asa seems content to let the relationship evolve on its own accord, he’s not quite ready for intimacy. There’s an element of reluctance between the Asa and Trevor, and both parties seem unsure if there is a spark worth fanning.
Kaizer takes Sinazo to Giggling Gourmet for a sensual food experience and dialogue loaded with sexual innuendos. For Sinazo, easy interaction does not necessarily imply romance. Kaizer on the other hand doesn’t buy into platonic relationships between men and women, “all the women that I’m friends with, are all the women I want to screw in the first place. They turn me down, we end up being friends.”
Maurice escorts Isabella to an art jamming session at Wembly Square, his usual infatuation with the female form foremost on his list of Isabella’s agreeable attributes. Not artistically gifted, Maurice is slightly anxious about the date, though Isabella’s vivacious attitude allows Maurice to relax and enjoy himself. What Isabella finds cute and fun, Maurice takes as silly. Unfortunately, Maurice’s reluctance to drop his guard and have fun dissuades Isabella from pursuing anything more than a single date.
Following their respective dates, the guys assemble in Bravo, Sea Point, to assess their week and discuss their dates. Maurice unwittingly declares he’s drawn to women who are innocent and virginal, as he finds young girls infinitely more attractive due to their lack of experience. No one is able to declare with any certainty that they have slept with a virgin. In an obscure attempt to quantify attractiveness, Maurice declares he’s “pomped ugly chicks, and had great sex.” Kaizer reaffirms that he finds something attractive in any woman he goes for. Maurice ponders this before voicing a fear, “young couples, you marry a girl, you fucking got all the best intentions and suddenly three years down the track she fucking looks like she’s swallowed a sheep.”
